Iran Come From Behind to Sink Gambia as South Africa Held in Goalless Friendly Draw After Foster Penalty Miss

As national teams continue their preparations for upcoming major international tournaments, several African sides were in action on Friday in a series of international friendly matches, with mixed results across the board.
Iran 🇮🇷 3-1 Gambia 🇬🇲 – Strong Second-Half Turnaround
Iran came from behind to secure a convincing 3-1 victory over Gambia in a tightly contested friendly encounter.
Gambia shocked the hosts in the 42nd minute when Omar Colley found the breakthrough to give the West Africans a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Iran, however, responded strongly after the break.
The equaliser arrived early in the second half through Arya Yousefi, who restored parity and shifted momentum back in favour of the home side. Iran then took full control of the match, with Ramin Rezaeian putting them ahead in the 59th minute before adding further pressure that eventually led to a comfortable finish for the Asian side.
The result reflects Iran’s growing momentum as they fine-tune their squad ahead of upcoming international competitions.
South Africa 🇿🇦 0-0 Nicaragua 🇳🇮 – Frustration for Bafana Bafana
In another international friendly, South Africa were held to a disappointing goalless draw by Nicaragua in a match that exposed finishing problems for Bafana Bafana.
South Africa had the clearest opportunity of the match in the first half when Lyle Foster stepped up to take a penalty, but the striker failed to convert, missing a crucial chance to give his side the lead.
Despite dominating possession and spending long periods in the opposition half, South Africa struggled to break down a disciplined Nicaraguan defence.
