A robbery incident in Rehoboth took a tragic turn over the weekend when a 21-year-old man died following a violent confrontation near Dr. Olivier’s Vet Practice in Block B.

According to the Namibian Police, the incident unfolded between late Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday. A 28-year-old man was reportedly walking home from Oudrew Man Bar/Splash Carwash around 23h00 when three men approached and allegedly robbed him of his cellphone.

During the struggle, the victim was stabbed on his left cheek. Acting in self-defense, he retaliated and managed to strike one of his attackers, while the other two suspects fled the scene with his phone.

Police officers who were patrolling the area arrived shortly after and discovered one of the alleged robbers lying unconscious. The man was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Authorities have since identified the deceased as a 21-year-old Namibian male. His family has been notified.

Investigations into the incident continue, as police work to trace the remaining two suspects believed to have fled with the stolen cellphone.
