Suspended Walvis Bay Councillor Faces Possible Arrest Over Alleged Misuse of Council Funds

The case, registered in Swakopmund, claims that Florian Donatus, the suspended Walvis Bay Rural constituency councillor, misused a council credit facility to purchase goods worth N$116 464.31 from Metro Walvis Bay, charging them to the council’s refreshment account without authorization. The alleged transactions took place during his tenure as councillor.

Police are investigating the matter, and an arrest is possible may follow soon. Erongo regional commander, Commissioner Nikolaus Kupembona, confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

“We are aware of the case. Investigations are still underway, and any arrest will be announced in due course,” he told a media outlet.

The allegations have also caused political repercussions. Last week, the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) recalled Donatus to allow the investigation to proceed without interference, citing alleged corruption and mismanagement of council resources.

Despite his recall and a court ruling reinstating Swapo’s Benita Imbamba as council chairperson, Donatus reportedly continues to act as if in office. Sources indicate he still uses the official council vehicle, participates in councillor communication platforms, and attends official events. Donatus told a media outlet that he has not been fully informed about the investigation.
