
A 66-year-old Swapo Party veteran, Raphael Kampanza, has been found dead in what is believed to be a suicide at his home in the Safari area of the Kavango East Region.
According to the police, Kampanza was found with a gunshot wound to the head inside his bedroom on the morning of the incident. He had earlier taken his grandchildren to school and returned home alone.
Family members said that Kampanza had been struggling with the recent loss of his wife. At the time of his death, he was living with his grandchildren.
His daughter became worried after trying to call him without success. She went to check on him, along with the family’s domestic helper. When they arrived, they found the gate and doors open. After entering the house, they found him lifeless in the bedroom.
Kampanza was known by many as a respected community member and a former political leader. His sudden death has left his family and community in shock.
Police investigations are ongoing. Funeral details will be announced by the family.
