Tate Buti from Okahandja gunned down by robberies

A fatal shooting incident unfolded today at a carwash in Okahandja, Otjozondjupa Region, leaving a 48-year-old man, nicknamed Tate Buti, dead.

According to Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, spokesperson for the Otjozondjupa Police, the tragic event occurred around 11:03 AM. The man was at a carwash located at a bar when two suspects arrived in a taxi. The suspects targeted a woman collecting cash from a betting shop on the premises, holding her at gunpoint and robbing her of N$1,400.

Reports suggest that the deceased, who was armed, attempted to assist the woman by drawing his firearm. However, one of the suspects shot him in the abdomen during the altercation.

“The suspects fled the scene on foot,” stated Inspector Mbeha.

The victim was initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Windhoek for further treatment. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries en route near the Okahandja-Windhoek roadblock.

Investigations revealed that the robbery victim had been dropped off at the carwash by a taxi driven by the brother of the suspect’s driver. While the woman opened a robbery case, she has since been detained for questioning at the Okahandja Police Station.

Both taxi drivers, who are brothers, have been located and are also being interrogated by the police.

The deceased’s family has been informed, and investigations into the incident continue.
