Teacher in Ohangwena Dies by Suicide Amid Financial Struggles – The Updated World

Tragedy struck the Ohangwena region on Tuesday morning when a teacher at Enyana Combined School allegedly took his own life, regional police have confirmed.

The deceased, identified as Titus Nuuyi, aged 34, was found unresponsive at around 07h00 by a group of schoolchildren on their way to school. The shocking discovery has left the local community in grief and disbelief.

According to police reports, Nuuyi was a dedicated teacher based in Okongo. The motive behind the suspected suicide is currently under investigation, but early indications suggest that the educator had been experiencing severe personal challenges.

The Namibian is in possession of a WhatsApp conversation allegedly between Nuuyi and a close friend, in which he opens up about serious financial difficulties. In the chat, he reportedly expressed emotional distress and a sense of hopelessness over his situation.

This incident has reignited calls for mental health support, especially for public servants such as teachers, who often face economic pressure and emotional stress in silence.

Community members and colleagues described Nuuyi as a kind-hearted and hardworking individual, dedicated to the wellbeing and education of his learners.

Authorities are urging anyone facing emotional or financial hardships to seek help and speak out before it’s too late. The Ministry of Education is expected to offer counselling support to both learners and staff affected by the incident.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to a local support service or trusted individual.
