The Namibia Boxing Federation has hailed Team Namibia’s commendable performance at the international boxing tournament held in Luanda, Angola, in celebration of the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary.

The tournament saw fierce competition among top boxers from across the region. In the preliminary round, Namibia’s Petrus Festus Ishongwa faced a tough opponent in Angola’s Buica Francisco and was eliminated.

Progressing to the semi-finals, three Namibian boxers, Petrus Jacobus Kotze, Israel Hamunyela, and Ipuleni Josua—fought valiantly but were ultimately outmatched by their Angolan counterparts. Kotze was defeated by Nzuzii, Hamunyela lost to Carlos Luyanda, and Josua fell to Avelino Luzito.

Despite these setbacks, Namibia found cause for celebration as Gebhard Tonateni Ipinge delivered a standout performance. After defeating Angola’s Adriano Kiana in the semi-finals, Ipinge advanced to the final held on 25 May. There, he clinched a unanimous victory against Zimbabwe’s Kimbini Takudzwa, earning a gold medal for Namibia.

The Federation expressed pride in the team’s overall efforts and applauded Ipinge’s exceptional achievement, underscoring the promising future of Namibian boxing on the international stage.
