The Namibian Police in the Erongo Region are investigating a case of theft and malicious damage to State property after copper worth more than N$600 000 was stolen from NamWater boreholes near Kuisebmond River.
According to Nampol’s weekend crime report, the incident occurred on Friday, 15 August, at an unknown time. It is alleged that unknown suspects targeted ten transformers connected to the boreholes, cut them open, and removed copper wires and metals valued at approximately N$664 440.
The theft has not only caused significant financial losses but has also left critical water infrastructure damaged, potentially affecting service delivery in the area.
No arrests have been made so far, and none of the stolen materials have been recovered. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Authorities have urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities or attempts to sell copper products without proper documentation, as cases of copper theft continue to affect State-owned utilities across the country.
