Three Dead, Two Injured in Tragic B1 Road Crash Near Otjiwarongo – The Updated World

A horrific road accident on the B1 highway between Otjiwarongo and Okahandja claimed three lives and left two people injured late Thursday night.

According to the Otjozondjupa Regional Police, the crash occurred around 23h00 on 16 October 2025, about 72 kilometres from Otjiwarongo towards Okahandja. The accident involved a white Toyota Double Cab that was travelling from Rundu to Windhoek.

Regional police spokesperson, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, said the driver was reportedly transporting his mother to the hospital when tragedy struck. “It is alleged that the vehicle drove over a drum containing oil that was lying in the middle of the road. The driver lost control, causing the car to overturn,” she explained.

The vehicle carried five occupants. Three passengers died instantly at the scene, while two others sustained injuries and were taken to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.

The driver, a 56-year-old Namibian man, complained of pain and was admitted for observation. A 25-year-old female passenger suffered pelvic and leg injuries and was later transferred to Windhoek for further treatment.

The deceased have been identified as an 84-year-old Namibian woman—the driver’s mother a 53-year-old Portuguese man, and a 36-year-old Namibian woman. Their bodies were transported to the Otjiwarongo Police Mortuary, and the next of kin have been informed.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing, while authorities have urged motorists to remain cautious, especially when travelling at night.
