Three men, aged 50, 19, and 18, have been arrested following a tragic incident that occurred in Oshondo location, Outapi town, where a young man lost his life after a violent assault. The suspects are currently in police custody and are scheduled to appear before the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
According to police, the fatal incident took place on Sunday, when the victim, an 18-year-old man identified as Gotlib Stephanus, was allegedly attacked by the trio. The altercation reportedly began after the young man was accused of stealing clothes from a washing line. This accusation led to a violent confrontation during which the suspects allegedly beat Stephanus using a knobkierrie—a traditional wooden club—while also punching and kicking him repeatedly.
The Omusati Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Ismael Basson, confirmed the arrests and indicated that the police are continuing with their investigations to gather further evidence and understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Athorities have urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Commissioner Basson emphasized the importance of allowing law enforcement and the justice system to handle suspected crimes through appropriate legal channels.
Police investigations into the matter remain ongoing, and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
