Search efforts are underway in the Mukwe Constituency of Kavango East following the suspected drowning of an 11-year-old boy in the Kavango River on Friday.
The missing boy, identified as Kavamba Olavi Tuhupure from Shamundambo village, was reportedly swimming with friends when he vanished beneath the water.
According to police reports, the group of children had gone for a swim when the tragic incident occurred. Witnesses said Tuhupure struggled in the water before disappearing.
Police officers, along with community members, launched an immediate search operation; however, the boy’s body had not been found by the time of reporting.
A police inquest has been opened as search efforts continue. Authorities are urging parents to remain vigilant and prevent children from swimming unsupervised, especially in rivers with strong currents.
