In a daring heist that has left the fishing industry on high alert, a truck carrying frozen fish valued at approximately N$2 million went missing in Walvis Bay on Tuesday night.
According to a reliable source, the truck allegedly gained access to a local fish company’s offloading point after posing as a legitimate logistics operator. Once inside, it was loaded with the consignment before vanishing without a trace.
While the truck itself has since been recovered, the large stock of frozen fish remains unaccounted for. Authorities are now investigating how the vehicle managed to infiltrate the company’s premises and whether the incident was an inside job.
The disappearance has sparked concern among stakeholders in Walvis Bay, Namibia’s main fishing hub, where millions of dollars worth of seafood pass through storage and export facilities daily.
Police are yet to release an official statement on the matter, but investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been reported at this stage.
