A late-night collision involving two government-owned vehicles unfolded on Sunday in the Nkurenkuru area, after a white Toyota pickup reportedly hit a cow crossing the road and veered into oncoming traffic.
The accident occurred in Siyena Village, where the driver of the white pickup, headed from Nkurenkuru to Rundu, is said to have struck the animal before losing control. The vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and collided with a silver Toyota pickup approaching from the opposite direction.
Police say both drivers were alone in their vehicles at the time and sustained only minor injuries. They were taken to Nankudu District Hospital for precautionary medical treatment.
The Sunday police bulletin confirmed that both vehicles involved in the crash are government property. Authorities have since opened a case of reckless and negligent driving as investigations continue.
Residents have long raised concerns about stray livestock on rural roads, which they say remain a persistent danger, particularly at night.
