Two young children have died after being struck by a vehicle in a tragic incident near the Karibib Roadblock on Thursday afternoon.

The victims were identified as five-year-old kindergarten learner Nicodemus Toivo and six-year-old kindergarten learner Megameno Ndeshipanda Hilalius. Both children were from Karibib.

Police said the children’s bodies were later taken to the Usakos State Mortuary, where they are being kept pending post-mortem examinations. Their next of kin have been notified.

The crash occurred at around 15:45 on 6 August 2026. According to Erongo Police spokesperson Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula, four minor children had reportedly entered the roadway while attempting to cross.

The vehicle involved was a white ADVT70 double-cab driven by a 64-year-old Namibian man who was travelling from Osino Mine towards Karibib. As the children entered the road, the driver allegedly attempted to avoid them but was unable to prevent the vehicle from hitting two of them.

LifeLink paramedics attended the scene and confirmed that the two children had died.

Police further reported that the driver was legally licensed and tested negative for alcohol following the incident.

A culpable homicide case has been registered in connection with the deaths. Investigations are continuing as authorities work to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.
