NAMDIA has provided an update on the major diamond heist that took place at its premises on January 18, where thieves stole gems worth N$314.9 million in broad daylight. This robbery is considered one of the biggest in the country’s history.
NAMDIA confirmed that diamonds valued at over N$40 million have been recovered. However, the majority of the stolen diamonds, worth N$274.3 million, are still missing.
The recovered diamonds total 4,511.50 carats. NAMDIA has not disclosed where they were found, stating that the details are part of an ongoing police investigation.
Spokesperson Beverley Coussement explained that revealing the value of the recovered diamonds took time due to an independent valuation process. This step was necessary to ensure accuracy and follow the required procedures. The investigation lead to suspension of NAMDIA Executives.
Authorities continue their efforts to track down the remaining stolen diamonds and bring those responsible to justice. The case remains under active investigation.
