The Namibian Police in Oshakati are investigating a harrowing case of rape and assault after a 34-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by her ex-boyfriend at Ombalala village on Sunday night.
Oshana Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Fredrick Ndjadila, confirmed the incident, stating it occurred around 21h00 while the victim was preparing dinner.
“The suspect reportedly confronted the complainant about their past relationship, questioning why she no longer wanted to be with him. The confrontation turned violent when the suspect allegedly pulled her and assaulted her with a panga,” Ndjadila said.
He further revealed that during the ordeal, the suspect allegedly tore the woman’s underwear before raping her. The case has been registered under the Combating of Rape Act 8/2000 and Assault with Intent to Do Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).
The suspect, who is known to the victim and also resides in Ombalala village, remains at large as police continue their search.
Deputy Commissioner Ndjadila urged the public to assist law enforcement with any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest, stressing that gender-based violence cases remain a serious concern in the region.
