Zambian Music Star Yo Maps Detained in Namibia Update

Windhoek, Namibia, Zambian music star Elton ‘Yo Maps’ Mulenga was detained by Namibian immigration authorities due to visa complications. In response, Crowd Intelligence Services Zambia (CIS) has appealed to Namibia’s home affairs minister, Albert Kawana, seeking reconsideration of the incident. CIS emphasized the cultural exchange aspect of Yo Maps’ visit, highlighting its benefits for both nations.

“We acknowledge and respect Namibia’s immigration policies and regulations. However, we kindly request your esteemed office to consider the context and the implications surrounding his visit. Yo Maps was in Namibia to engage in a cultural exchange through his performance, which brings considerable benefits to both Namibia and Zambia, fostering goodwill and enhancing bilateral relations,” the letter from CIS read.
Yo Maps was released from custody on Monday after being arrested on Saturday following his concert at the Loft in Windhoek, which took place without a proper work permit. Represented by Namibian lawyer Kadhila Amoomo, the artist was fined N$5,000 by the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court.
Through his lawyer, Yo Maps apologized and admitted guilt. Additional reports from nbc News indicate that the concert was co-organized by Zambian nationals living in Namibia, some of whom lack proper documentation and are currently evading authorities.
