Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu-PF, has dismissed its Director-General, Brigadier-General (Retired) Ezekiel Zabanyana, with immediate effect.
In a letter signed by the party’s Secretary-General, Jacob Mudenda, Zabanyana was informed that his tenure as Director-General had been terminated at the direction of the party’s President and First Secretary, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“I hereby inform you that His Excellency, the President and First Secretary of the Party, has directed that your position as Zanu-PF Director-General be terminated immediately,” the letter stated.
While the letter did not provide an official reason for Zabanyana’s dismissal, the party expressed its appreciation for his contribution and extended best wishes for his future endeavours.
Zabanyana, a retired military officer, was appointed to the position in 2023, a move that at the time was seen as part of Zanu-PF’s strategy to strengthen its organisational and election machinery ahead of key political events.
The sudden dismissal has sparked speculation within political circles about possible internal reshuffles or power dynamics within the ruling party. However, Zanu-PF has not issued any further statement regarding his replacement or the circumstances surrounding his removal.
