Police in Walvis Bay are investigating a case of suicide following the discovery of a 54-year-old man who was found hanging in his rented room on Sam Nujoma Avenue earlier this week.
The deceased has been identified as Slabbert Henri, a Namibian national. According to Erongo police, the incident occurred on 7 October 2025 at an unknown time in Room 2, located opposite KFC in the town’s central area.
No suicide note was found at the scene, and the circumstances leading up to Henri’s death remain unclear.
According to the police report, Henri’s fiancée became worried after failing to make contact with him since Monday, 6 October. When her calls went unanswered, she decided to visit his residence the following morning and noticed his vehicle parked outside. Despite repeated attempts to reach him on his phone, there was still no response.
Concerned for his safety, she contacted her employer and the police for assistance. Authorities responded and forced entry into the room, where they discovered Henri’s lifeless body.
Police have since notified the next of kin, and investigations continue to determine the events that may have led to the tragic incident.
Authorities have once again urged community members to seek help when struggling with emotional distress, emphasizing the importance of reaching out to family, friends, or professional counselling services.
