During the Rundu Town debate hosted by NMH, representatives from all major political parties engaged in a heated discussion about the state of the town and the future of its development. The session highlighted strong disagreements over which party is best positioned to steer Rundu out of its current challenges.
Rundu continues to face serious hardships, including unreliable water supply, poor road infrastructure, lack of streetlights, widespread informal housing, and various other service delivery issues.
SWAPO defended its leadership record, arguing that the party is on the right path and has clear plans to improve the town if given another mandate. However, opposition parties strongly disagreed, insisting that Rundu’s problems are the result of years of poor planning under the ruling party.
Kanyetu Vicent of the Action Democratic Movement accused SWAPO of failing to manage the town’s development effectively, claiming the party prioritises comrades over genuine service delivery. He alleged that tenders and opportunities are distributed internally, hindering real progress. Vicent said his party is ready to bring the dedication and effort needed to transform Rundu.
The Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement also expressed confidence in its ability to deliver change. Its representative said AR is prepared to create new opportunities and establish a modern development structure that will address the town’s challenges while improving its current systems.
With only 12 days left before the election, residents are expected to cast their votes for their preferred leaders—decisions that will shape the future of Rundu.
