Nigeria Receives US Military Support as Kidnappings Persist

Security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States has continued to expand, with Nigerian authorities receiving military support from the US to assist in ongoing security operations. The equipment was handed over in Abuja by United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) as part of existing defence collaboration between the two countries.
AFRICOM confirmed the delivery but did not disclose details about the type or quantity of military equipment supplied. The support is intended to strengthen Nigeria’s ability to respond to security threats in different parts of the country.
The assistance comes amid increased US security engagement with Nigeria, following airstrikes carried out by US forces in December against Islamist militant targets in Sokoto State. The strikes were described by US officials as part of broader counterterrorism efforts.
Despite these operations, Nigeria continues to face serious security challenges, with reports of women and children still being kidnapped in some regions. The ongoing abductions underline the difficulties authorities face in fully ending militant and criminal activities.
In response to the continued threat, the Nigerian military has also launched its own air and ground operations in several areas. According to official statements, these strikes have led to the dismantling of terrorist camps and the elimination of armed fighters. However, security experts note that insecurity remains a concern, as attacks and kidnappings continue to affect civilian communities.
Authorities have stated that security operations will continue, as the government works with international partners to improve safety and restore stability across Nigeria.
