Team Namibia Unveiled for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Namibia will send a 23-member athlete squad to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after the Namibia National Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association (NNOC-CGA) officially announced the country’s team on Thursday in Windhoek.
The announcement, held at the Namibia Cricket Ground, confirmed the athletes who will represent the nation at one of the world’s biggest multi-sport events, scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026.
The selected team consists of 15 male and eight female athletes competing across five sporting codes: athletics, para-athletics, boxing, gymnastics, lawn bowls, and swimming. They will be supported by coaches, medical personnel, technical officials, and administrators, bringing the total Namibian delegation to approximately 39 members.
Addressing attendees at the official unveiling ceremony, NNOC-CGA President Dr. Ndeulipula Hamutumwa expressed confidence in the team’s ability to represent the country with distinction on the international stage.

The event was attended by sports administrators, athletes, coaches, federation representatives, members of the media, and invited guests. Among the speakers were NNOC-CGA Chief Executive Officer Anri Parker, British High Commissioner to Namibia Neil Bradley, NNOC-CGA President Dr. Hamutumwa, and Team Namibia Chef de Mission Joseph Amakali, who formally revealed the final squad.
Athletics will be represented by Chenoul Lionel Coetzee, Elvis Khikhoe Gaseb, Charley Matundu, and Ryan Williams. Paralympic star Ananias Shikongo will compete in para-athletics, accompanied by guide Even Tjiviju.
The boxing team includes Mischa Monique Araes, Philip Pumulo Mutalela Hoaseb, Gebhard Tonateni Ipinge, Petrus Jacobus Kotze, and Tryagain Morning Ndevelo.
Gymnastics Namibia will be represented by Sureshni Andrew, Anne-Leen Thorburn, Jonie Thorburn, and Tyesha Humphries, while the lawn bowls team features Amanda Steenkamp, Diana Viljoen, Ronald Christo Steenkamp, and Waylon Wentzel.
In swimming, Namibia will rely on Jessica Olive Twaepwa Humphrey, Luke Arthur Matthew Beukes, José Canjulo, Oliver Benjamin Durand, and Ronan Zuberg Wantenaar.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are expected to bring together around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories. Competitors will battle for 215 gold medals across 249 events in 10 sports, alongside six fully integrated para-sports, making it the most extensive para-sport programme in Commonwealth Games history.
For Namibia’s athletes, selection represents the reward for years of dedication, discipline, and sacrifice. The squad now begins the final phase of preparations as they aim to make the nation proud on the global stage.
The NNOC-CGA also acknowledged the contribution of national federations, coaches, technical staff, sponsors, government partners, and families whose support has helped athletes reach this level of competition.
With less than two months remaining before the opening ceremony, Team Namibia’s focus now shifts from selection to performance as the country’s athletes prepare to compete against some of the Commonwealth’s finest sporting talent.
