Namibia’s Biggest School Sports Clash Set for September

The countdown to one of Namibia’s most anticipated school sporting events has officially begun following the launch of the Top Score National Elite Championships (NEC), unveiled this week at the Namibia Cricket Grounds in Windhoek.
The multi-sport tournament will bring together some of the country’s strongest school teams in a high-level competition aimed at determining the ultimate school sporting institution in Namibia. The championship is set to take place from 10–12 September 2026, being coordinated through a partnership between the Namibia Schools Sports Union (NSSU), Top Score, Model, and Indongo Toyota.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dino Ballotti, urged learners to embrace the opportunity with commitment and pride as they represent their schools on a national platform.
“I encourage all invited schools across Namibia to become part of this exciting journey,” Hon. Ballotti said, adding that sport remains one of the most powerful tools for youth development, discipline, and national unity.
He further emphasized that the NEC is not only about competition, but also about long-term development. “One of the most important aspects of this championship is that it does not end with winning alone. It creates opportunities for identification, further development, and progression,” he noted.
A total of 24 schools have been initially invited to participate in the inaugural edition of the championships.
This year’s NEC will feature competition across four major sporting codes: soccer, netball, hockey, and rugby. The unique format is designed to measure overall school performance through a structured points-based system, rewarding consistency and collective excellence across all disciplines rather than focusing on a single code.

More than just a tournament, the NEC is positioned as a development-driven platform aimed at promoting youth empowerment, school pride, unity, and fair play. Organisers say the championship will also play a key role in strengthening school sport culture and nurturing future sporting talent in Namibia.
The launch was attended by Director of Sport Ms Jo-Ann Manuel, NSSU National Coordinator Roger Kambatuku, school principals, coaches, sports enthusiasts, and key stakeholders from the education and sport sectors.
Stakeholders also highlighted the importance of corporate sponsorship from Top Score, Model, and Indongo Toyota, noting that their support will be crucial in ensuring the successful staging and long-term sustainability of the championship.
