Namibia has officially entered the 5G era, with MTC unveiling the country’s first commercial rollout of the next-generation network.
The launch was announced on 24 August 2025 during the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair, marking a historic milestone for the nation’s telecommunications sector. For the initial phase, the service is live in Ongwediva, Windhoek, Swakopmund, and Walvis Bay, with nationwide expansion expected in the coming months.
MTC Chief Technical and Information Officer, Monica Nehemia, described the introduction of 5G as a crucial advancement in Namibia’s digital journey. She emphasized that the technology will not only improve connectivity but also accelerate access to essential services and bridge the digital divide.
“We are proud to introduce 5G to the Namibian market. This development reflects our commitment to driving digital transformation by offering reliable, modern network technology that supports information access, communication, and innovation,” Nehemia said.
She highlighted that 5G will play a pivotal role in enabling innovation across key sectors, including Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital payments. According to Nehemia, the network’s speed and capacity will also strengthen enterprise solutions by boosting efficiency, scalability, and overall business operations.
