Redforce Drags Minister Sankwasa to Court Over N$850,000 Defamation Claim

Sankwasa – The Updated World

The Redforce debt management company has filed a lawsuit against the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, demanding N$850,000 in damages for alleged defamatory remarks made by the minister.

In court documents filed through Etzold-Duvenhage Attorneys, Redforce accuses Sankwasa of making a series of false and damaging statements that tarnished the company’s reputation. These statements were reportedly made public through various local media platforms after Sankwasa instructed all local authorities to terminate their contracts with Redforce.

According to the particulars of claim, Sankwasa issued a written directive on 4 August 2025, stating that Redforce “has caused many economic and political challenges and problems for citizens and residents in all such local authorities that use the services.” He further advised that no new or renewed agreements should be signed with the company.

Redforce’s legal representatives argue that such remarks were both wrongful and defamatory, as they implied that the company was responsible for creating hardship and instability within communities.

In another instance, the minister allegedly stated: “The nation has been crying for so many years about exploitation by this company. Some local authorities will argue that debt collection is done well by external companies, but that’s because they have shares and receive commission. I am not here for that. We are not here to sell this country.”

Etzold-Duvenhage contends that these comments portrayed Redforce as corrupt and exploitative, suggesting it benefits elites and engages in unethical practices. The law firm further claims that Sankwasa’s hostility toward the company dates back to 2017, after Redforce attempted to recover debts linked to him, including an Agribank loan and municipal arrears in Katima Mulilo.

As part of the relief sought, Redforce is demanding that Sankwasa issue a public retraction and an unconditional apology, in addition to the N$850,000 compensation and legal costs.

The case is currently before the High Court, and no hearing date has yet been announced.
