A tragic crocodile attack at Kamutjonga village in the Mukwe constituency, Kavango East Region, has left an eight-month-old baby dead and the mother injured. The incident occurred on Monday along the rivershore, raising renewed concerns over community safety near water sources.
According to constituency councillor Damian Maghambayi, the 24-year-old mother was doing laundry at the river before attempting to bathe her infant, identified as Bathlomeus Kambongo Iikando. During this time, a crocodile suddenly emerged and attacked.
Despite the mother’s desperate attempt to save her child, the reptile overpowered her and dragged the infant into the river. The mother sustained injuries to her thigh and buttocks while trying to fight off the animal.
The injured mother was taken to Andara Hospital for medical care, while search efforts continue as the baby’s body has not yet been recovered.
