Swartbooi Raises Concerns Over Media Bias Reporting

Landless People’s Movement (LPM) leader Bernadus Swartbooi on Wednesday expressed concerns over what he described as biased reporting by certain local media outlets.
Speaking after casting his vote at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Windhoek, Swartbooi singled out the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and The Namibian, saying they often highlight negative stories about his party while leaving out positive developments.
“The Namibian always reports negative things about us. Any negative thing becomes front-page news, and anything positive they leave out, I don’t why you even recording me” he said.
Swartbooi also responded to a recent report about an alleged altercation with former LPM member Vernon in Keetmanshoop, which suggested the two had almost fought.
“They said I was beaten. Did they see me on the ground or falling?” he asked.
He further questioned the journalist who interviewed him, questioning why he should engage with media houses that rarely attend LPM events.
“Why should I talk to NBC? You hardly come to our events, your editors go and remove things we said, people are getting problem, journalist reporting whatever are need to be reported in the middle of our campaigns, when the message that’s we are giving are not the one SWAPO approve, NBC cameras are switched off. He added.
