Six Grade 8 learners at Katjinakatji Senior Secondary School were injured last weekend after allegedly being forced to crawl by a teacher as punishment.
The incident, which took place on Saturday, reportedly involved ten learners accused of making noise. As part of the punishment, they were instructed to crawl, leaving six with visible knee sores and difficulty walking for several days.
According to school sources, the affected learners received medical attention at a nearby clinic and were discharged on Thursday, after which they returned to school.
The school has since submitted a formal report on the matter to the circuit inspector. Education authorities are reviewing the case and are expected to provide feedback in the coming days.
Concerns have been raised in the community over the use of corporal punishment in schools, which remains prohibited by law. Parents have also voiced frustration, saying such disciplinary practices endanger the wellbeing of children.
The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture has not yet issued an official statement.
