South Africa’s PSL Tops African Leagues in 2026 World Cup Player Call-Ups

African domestic football has recorded notable representation, with South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) emerging as the leading contributor of players on the continent.
The PSL tops all African domestic competitions with 19 players selected for the tournament, reinforcing its status as one of the most competitive leagues in Africa. Egypt follows with 17 players earning call-ups from its local league system.
Tunisia will send seven players from its domestic league, while Algeria and Morocco each have three representatives. Ghana rounds off the list with one player selected from its domestic competition.
At club level, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are the most represented sides, with eight players each set to feature at the global tournament.
This distribution reflects the PSL’s growing influence in international football, while also highlighting the continued contribution of Southern African leagues in producing World Cup-level talent.
