Mexico President Agrees to Host Iran for 2026 World Cup

Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, has agreed that the country will host Iran’s national football team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the United States declined to accommodate the team outside official match duties.
Iran is set to establish its training base in the northern city of Tijuana, a move aimed at avoiding potential visa and travel complications. The decision provides a practical solution, ensuring the team can prepare for the tournament without disruption.
Despite being based in Mexico, Iran will still travel to the United States for its Group G fixtures, where they are scheduled to face New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, marking the first edition of the tournament to be staged across three countries.
