The Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) has instructed the Namibia Football Association (NFA) to urgently address alleged non-compliance with national sports legislation, following concerns over the composition of its executive leadership.

In an official communication dated 15 May 2026 and addressed to NFA Acting Secretary General Mambo Vries, the NSC stated that the current structure of the association’s executive appears to conflict with provisions of the Sport Act of 2003 (Act No. 12 of 2003), particularly Section 25.

At the centre of the matter is a clause in the Act that restricts individuals from serving in executive positions within national sports federations if they concurrently hold elected political office at national, regional, or local government level.

The Commission indicated that despite earlier correspondence sent in January 2026, the matter had not been fully resolved. It specifically pointed to the continued inclusion of Mr. Lourence Kandundu, who is understood to serve both in the NFA leadership structure and as a local authority councillor.

The NSC stressed that statutory requirements under the Sport Act override any internal rules or constitutional provisions of sporting bodies. It further warned that governance arrangements not aligned with the law could compromise the legitimacy of decisions taken by the current executive.

The Commission has given the NFA 14 working days to rectify the identified issues and bring its leadership structure into full compliance. It has also requested formal confirmation of corrective steps taken.

Failure to comply, the NSC cautioned, could expose the association to governance and legal challenges that may affect its operations and decision-making processes.

The NFA has been advised to engage the Office of the Chief Administrator at the NSC for further clarification and guidance as it works toward compliance.

The matter remains under review.
