Young African FC CAF Spot Explained as Marley Ngarizemo Responds to Qualification Claims

Young African FC founder and chairperson of the Maris Cup, Marley Ngarizemo, has clarified information circulating about the club’s CAF qualification after claims suggested the team qualified because they finished second in the league.
Young African FC finished second in both the domestic league and the Maris Cup, while African Stars FC won both competitions.
Responding to a post shared by The Updated World, Ngarizemo said the information was misleading, explaining that Young African FC did not qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup because of their league position.
According to Ngarizemo, the club participated in the CAF Confederation Cup as runners-up of the Maris Cup final after African Stars FC chose to compete in the CAF Champions League instead of the Confederation Cup.
The Maris Cup was introduced by MTC as a competition involving only Premier League teams and operated on a “winner takes all” format. The tournament can be compared to the ongoing Top 8 Cup sponsored by Standard Bank, which is also only contested by clubs that finish in the league’s top positions.
Ngarizemo further stated that if African Stars had decided to play in the Confederation Cup, they would have been the only Namibian club participating in CAF competitions.
