Residents of Kamutjonga in the Mukwe Constituency, Kavango East, are once again facing the dangers of crocodile attacks along their local river. An elderly man was recently assaulted while fetching water, but villagers acted quickly to rescue him from the predator’s grasp.
This news comes weeks after the community of Kamutjonga village held a peaceful protest and submitted a petition to the government, urging action to prevent further crocodile attacks.
The man suffered injuries to his arm and is currently receiving treatment at Andara Hospital, where his condition is reported as stable.
This latest incident marks the third attack in the past three months. The community continues to grieve the earlier losses of a 9-month-old infant and a 9-year-old girl, both victims of previous crocodile attacks. Despite thorough searches, the remains of these two victims have yet to be found.
Wildlife authorities have reportedly eliminated two crocodiles in the area and discovered bones suspected to be human. These remains have been sent for forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.
