Namibia Eyes Pointe-Noire Trade Hub To Expand Market Access

Namibia is exploring opportunities to expand trade and investment with the Republic of Congo, with the proposed establishment of a Namibian Trade Hub in Pointe-Noire emerging as a potential gateway to the Congolese and wider Central African markets.
Minister of International Relations and Trade Selma Ashipala-Musavyi raised the proposal during a Business Forum in Pointe-Noire held as part of her Ministerial Working Visit to the Republic of Congo.
The Minister called for stronger economic cooperation between Namibia and Congo, identifying agriculture, fisheries, agro-processing, mining, energy, hospitality and logistics as key areas with potential for increased business cooperation.
Ashipala-Musavyi urged businesses from both countries to move beyond political goodwill and develop concrete trade, investment and commercial partnerships that can contribute to economic growth and regional integration.
She said stronger private-sector cooperation would also support the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which seeks to increase intra-African trade and deepen economic integration across the continent.
The proposed Namibian Trade Hub in Pointe-Noire could provide a platform for Namibian businesses to introduce their products to the Congolese market while creating opportunities for Congolese companies seeking access to markets in Southern Africa.
The focus on Pointe-Noire is particularly significant given the city’s importance as a commercial and port centre.
During her visit, Ashipala-Musavyi was also scheduled to visit the Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire, underscoring the importance of logistics and trade connectivity in strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
The Minister’s visit to the Republic of Congo took place from 19 to 21 August 2026 and included engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
The proposed Trade Hub could therefore become an important component of Namibia’s economic diplomacy, providing a practical mechanism for connecting businesses, facilitating market access and promoting greater trade between Namibia, Congo and the wider African market.
As Namibia continues to pursue economic diversification and greater participation in regional and continental markets, stronger business-to-business ties with Congo could open new opportunities for exporters, investors and service providers in both countries.
