A comprehensive wage agreement has brought the industrial action at Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (Nored) to a close, following late-night negotiations between the company’s board, management and worker representatives.

The breakthrough was achieved at approximately 00h30 after discussions facilitated by Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation Minister Fillemon Immanuel. The talks focused primarily on addressing employees’ salary concerns for the current and upcoming financial years.

At the centre of the agreement is the financial package secured for workers. Employees will receive a 14th cheque in place of a salary increase for the 2024/2025 financial year, with payment scheduled for this afternoon. In addition, the settlement provides for a 4% salary adjustment effective 1 July 2025, followed by a further 4.3% increase effective 1 July 2026.

The phased increases are aimed at improving employee remuneration while maintaining the financial stability of the electricity distributor. Both parties agreed that the structured approach would balance workers’ expectations with the operational sustainability of the institution.

The strike had begun to place pressure on essential service providers, including health facilities, schools and businesses that rely heavily on uninterrupted electricity supply. With the agreement now in place, employees are expected to resume duties, allowing full restoration of services across the affected areas.

The resolution marks the end of the dispute and sets a clear salary framework for the next two financial cycles.
