Former footballer and current government employee, Lolo Goraseb, staged a protest outside the Office of the Prime Minister. He stood at the entrance with chains around his body and neck to express his concerns.
Goraseb criticized the placement of the Public Service Commission under the Office of the Prime Minister, arguing that this setup prevents the commission from working independently. He told NBC,
“The commission should be an independent body that manages public service matters without interference from the Prime Minister’s Office.”
He pointed out that the commission itself has suggested becoming autonomous, but it remains under the Prime Minister’s control, limiting its ability to make unbiased decisions.
Goraseb also raised concerns about leadership within the Department of Public Service Management, which is responsible for public service reforms. He alleged that the department is led by a staff member who was found to be dishonest under oath at the Labour Commission. Additionally, he claimed that the division responsible for Ethics and Integrity is run by another official with a similar history.
“This is the corruption we are talking about,” he stated.
Goraseb further accused the top leadership at the Office of the Prime Minister of failing in their duties.
In response, I-Ben Nashandi, the accounting officer at the Prime Minister’s Office, told NBC that all employees with complaints should follow the proper channels to address their grievances.
