Ondangwa Mayor represents Namibia at African women’s leadership academy
Ondangwa Mayor Ester Mweneni Auala is representing Namibia at the inaugural African Academy for Women in Political Leadership, currently taking place in Kigali, Rwanda.
According to information from the programme, Auala was delegated by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to join 40 women leaders from Africa and the Caribbean participating in the leadership academy.
The three week programme is facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission and the African Women Leaders Network, in partnership with the African School of Governance.
The academy consists of one week of in-person learning in Rwanda, followed by two weeks of virtual sessions focusing on governance, public policy and inclusive leadership.
Speaking on behalf of Namibia, Auala highlighted the country’s progress in women’s political representation, noting that women currently occupy key positions, including President, Vice President and Speaker.“When one woman succeeds, she opens doors for many others. Let’s lead with unity, courage and integrity,” Auala said.
She also encouraged women leaders to remain resilient and committed to their leadership responsibilities despite criticism and challenges.
The academy seeks to strengthen the leadership capabilities of women in politics and promote more inclusive and effective governance across Africa and beyond.
