Fire Destroys Home, Leaves Katima Family in Need of Assistance

A household in Nova Location, Katima Mulilo, was affected by a fire this morning, leaving a single mother and her school-going daughter facing significant challenges after their home and household belongings were damaged.
The incident occurred at around 09:00 on Saturday, 8 August 2026.
Katima Mulilo Town Council Deputy Mayor, Hon. Charity Mushabati Matongo-Mabuku, visited the affected household following the incident to assess the damage, engage with the family and determine their immediate needs.
The affected resident, 47-year-old Ms. Mulele Muloela Priscar, is a single mother and street vendor who relies on her business to support her daughter, who is currently attending school.
The fire destroyed household belongings, including the learner’s school uniform and other essential school items, adding to the difficulties faced by the family.
The Town Council’s Fire Department and Risk Management Team attended the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance.
As part of its immediate response, the Council provided the family with three mattresses and a tent for temporary shelter while arrangements are made to assist the household with rebuilding.
The Deputy Mayor’s visit forms part of the Council’s efforts to respond to residents affected by emergencies, particularly vulnerable households requiring immediate assistance.
The Council said it remains committed to working with residents and partners to coordinate timely support for families affected by emergencies in the community.
