Steenkamp Urges School Leaders to Drive Excellence

Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dr. Sanet L. Steenkamp, has urged school principals in the Kunene Region to strengthen leadership, accountability and learner performance.
Steenkamp made the call on Thursday during a meeting with school principals and regional education management in Outjo, where she acknowledged the challenges facing schools in the region and commended educators for their dedication.
“I am aware of the conditions under which you work, and yet you have kept schools open, kept hostels running. On behalf of the Ministry, I thank you,” she said.
The Minister stressed that improved examination results depend on consistent efforts in the classroom rather than interventions introduced only during examination periods.
“Results are not produced during the examination period, they are produced every day in our classrooms, through quality lesson planning, effective teaching and consistent learner support,” Steenkamp said.
She further reaffirmed Government’s commitment to providing quality education and called on school leaders to uphold integrity, strengthen accountability and work collectively to improve outcomes for learners.
Steenkamp emphasised the Ministry’s vision that “every learner matters, every teacher excels and every school succeeds.”
