Man Dies After Being Hit by Train Near Okahandja

TransNamib has reiterated its commitment to railway safety following a fatal incident near Okahandja earlier today.
Chief Executive Officer Desmond van Jaarsveld stated that the company continues to enforce strict safety measures, including regulated train speeds, constant driver alertness, and the use of clearly marked railway crossings. He also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate.
The accident occurred at approximately 12h22 when a male pedestrian was struck and killed by a TransNamib train. Preliminary reports indicate that the train was travelling at about 52 km/h at the time, which is within the permitted speed limit.
It is further reported that the pedestrian attempted to cross the railway line at a location not designated for public access.
Van Jaarsveld added that TransNamib is strengthening its community outreach programmes to promote railway safety, with a focus on educating the public about the risks of crossing tracks at undesignated areas and the importance of keeping a safe distance from railway lines.
