Intercape Coach Involved in Serious Crash Near Mariental

An Intercape passenger coach travelling from Cape Town to Windhoek was involved in a road accident on Saturday morning, 29 August 2026, about 30 kilometres north of Mariental.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:40 when a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction reportedly lost control before colliding head-on with the Intercape coach.
Intercape said none of the passengers suffered injuries in the crash. However, one passenger later developed a medical complication that was not related to the accident and was taken to a hospital in Mariental for further treatment.
Passengers were temporarily delayed while arrangements were made for another coach. Intercape said it provided water and other essential supplies to passengers while they waited for the replacement vehicle.
A replacement coach was dispatched from the company’s Windhoek depot to allow the passengers to continue their journey.
The company also praised the emergency services and authorities for their prompt response, while commending the Intercape driver for handling the situation professionally.
According to Intercape, footage from the coach’s onboard camera, together with accounts from witnesses, indicated that the approaching vehicle lost control before the collision.
The company said it would continue working with the relevant authorities as investigations into the circumstances of the crash continue.
Intercape reiterated that the safety and wellbeing of its passengers and crew remain its top priority.
