Woman Succumbs to Injuries After Bakkie Carrying 16 Passengers Overturns

A woman has succumbed to her injuries after a bakkie carrying 16 passengers overturned along the Ondobe–Eenhana main road yesterday afternoon.
Police confirmed that all 16 passengers were injured in the crash, with the woman later dying at Eenhana Hospital today.
The group was reportedly travelling to Okongo to attend a wedding when the 37-year-old driver lost control of the bakkie, causing it to overturn.

Nine passengers were treated and discharged from hospital, while six others remain admitted at various health facilities, including Onandjokwe, Ondangwa and Ongwediva MediPark.
The driver was also taken to hospital following the accident but was later discharged. Police subsequently arrested him after determining that he was driving without a valid driver’s licence.
Suspected illegal alcohol, reportedly smuggled from neighbouring Angola, was also found scattered at the accident scene.
Police investigations into the crash are continuing.
