Multiple Road Accidents Claim Lives in Namibia Over Two Days

Gobabis – 02 April 2026: A tragic collision on the Trans-Kalahari Highway left two women dead and several others injured on Thursday evening. A 32-year-old male driver from Windhoek, traveling in a white SUV, reportedly struck a kudu about 20 km from Witvlei while en route to Gobabis. The vehicle was brought safely to the side of the road, and the driver began assisting the passengers when a seven-seater vehicle, also registered in Windhoek and traveling in the same direction, collided with the right rear side of the SUV.
The impact resulted in the immediate deaths of two 28-year-old women. Two other passengers sustained serious injuries and were first taken to Gobabis State Hospital before being transferred to Katutura State Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the seven-seater, along with seven passengers—including one male, six females, and a four-month-old baby—were also hospitalized, with one female later transferred to Windhoek for advanced care. Police investigations into the collision are ongoing.
Otjiwarongo – 02 April 2026: A separate incident on the Otjiwarongo/Okakarara C22 road claimed the lives of two individuals when a white Toyota Land Cruiser overturned. The accident occurred around 12h55 after the vehicle’s rear tire burst, causing the driver to lose control. Among the deceased were Honorable James Uerikua and 14-year-old Venturo Uerikua. Seven occupants were in the vehicle, all of whom sustained serious to moderate injuries. They were initially admitted to Otjiwarongo State Hospital and subsequently transferred to Windhoek for further treatment. Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Usakos – 03 April 2026: On Friday afternoon around 17h00, a road accident on the B2 between Usakos and Arandis claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman, Florian Uatanaua. A silver Toyota Wish, carrying six adults and two young children from Windhoek to Walvis Bay, swerved off the road to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming black BMW. The evasive maneuver caused the vehicle’s rear right tire to burst, resulting in the vehicle overturning twice before coming to rest on its wheels. The driver escaped unharmed, while the other five passengers sustained injuries and were transported to Swakopmund Hospital. The deceased was taken to Usakos State Hospital for certification, and next of kin have been notified.
Police urge motorists to exercise caution on Namibia’s highways and continue to investigate all three incidents.
