Kamanjab councillor pledges N$2,000 if Haoseb wins gold at Commonwealth Games
Kamanjab Constituency councillor Nicodemus Amutenya has pledged N$2,000 to Namibian boxer Philip Haoseb if he secures a gold medal for the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Amutenya said his pledge is aimed at showing support for Haoseb, who is representing Namibia on the international stage and carrying the hopes of the nation.
“Representing Namibia is about far more than personal achievement. When this athlete steps into the ring, he carries the hopes, pride and aspirations of every Namibian,” Amutenya said.
He said Haoseb’s remarks that only a few people back home were supporting him motivated him to step forward and encourage more Namibians to rally behind the boxer.
Although he has never met Haoseb personally, Amutenya said his decision to support the athlete is driven by patriotism and a desire to recognise the efforts of Namibians competing internationally.
He has also called on individuals, businesses and organisations to make their own pledges and support Haoseb as he continues his Commonwealth Games campaign.
Haoseb made history by securing Namibia’s first medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Tuesday and is now aiming for gold as the competition reaches its final stages.
