Tragedy struck early this morning when an ambulance collided with a truck on the road between Otavi and Otjiwarongo, about 20 km from Otavi. The impact claimed the lives of two people and left six others seriously injured.
The injured passengers were swiftly transported to Otjiwarongo Intermediate Hospital for medical attention.
Otjozondjupa Regional Commander, Commissioner Philip Hidengwa, stated that the truck, which had a Zambian registration, broke down and was left on the road without hazard lights or any warning signs. This led to the devastating crash.
In a related incident at the same location, another vehicle coming from Otjiwarongo swerved off the road after hitting a piece of iron that had fallen from the truck.
Authorities are investigating the accident, and road users are urged to exercise caution, especially at night.
