Nigeria Confirms Intelligence-Led Airstrikes on Terrorist Camps With US Support

Nigeria has officially confirmed security cooperation with the United States following recent air strikes on terrorist targets in the country’s North West region, aimed at countering growing threats of terrorism and violent extremism.
In a press release issued on Friday, December 26, 2025, the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the operation was carried out as part of ongoing structured security and intelligence collaboration between Nigeria and its international partners, including the United States. The ministry explained that the cooperation led to precision air strikes against identified terrorist targets operating within Nigeria.
The confirmation comes after US President Donald J. Trump announced that American forces had launched a military strike against ISIS-linked militants in northwest Nigeria. President Trump said the operation was authorized by him as Commander in Chief and was intended to respond to attacks on civilians, particularly Christian communities.
According to the Nigerian government, the cooperation with the United States is in line with international law and bilateral agreements, and includes intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of security support. The ministry emphasized that all counter-terrorism operations prioritize the protection of civilian lives, national unity, and the rights of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
The statement further stressed that terrorist violence targeting any group—Christians, Muslims, or other communities remains a direct threat to Nigeria’s values as well as regional and global peace and security.
Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with its partners to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, prevent cross-border threats, and strengthen the country’s own security and intelligence capabilities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the public would continue to be updated through official channels as developments unfold.
The press release was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
