Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has announced that it will be giving free data to its customers in honor of Namibia’s Founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma, who passed away on February 8, 2025, after spending three weeks in Windhoek Hospital.
To commemorate his legacy, MTC is offering 1929 MB of free data, symbolizing the year of Dr. Nujoma’s birth. The offer is valid from today until the day of his burial. Customers can claim the data by dialing *1990#, selecting the day’s offer, and confirming their request. The data will be valid until 23:59:59 on the day of activation. Terms and conditions apply.
As Namibia mourns the loss of its first president, regional memorial services are being held across the country. Today, a memorial service is taking place in Katima Mulilo, where leaders, dignitaries, and citizens are gathering to pay their respects. Other regions will also host memorial services in the coming days, allowing people from all parts of the country to honor the legacy of Dr. Nujoma.
Some customers have reported difficulties when signing up for the free data offer. However, MTC assures that persistence is key—if the request fails initially, customers should keep trying until they are successful. Once activated, users can check their free data balance by dialing *682#, then selecting:
- Balance Inquiries
- Free Units
A message will pop up displaying the available free data balance.
MTC’s initiative is part of a nationwide effort to honor the life and contributions of Dr. Sam Nujoma, who played a pivotal role in Namibia’s independence and development. Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of the offer and join the national mourning period as the country bids farewell to its founding leader.
