FIFA Rules Against Haiti World Cup Jersey Design Element

World football governing body FIFA has instructed Haiti to revise its national team jersey after raising concerns that one of the design elements carries what it considers a “political message.”

At the center of the dispute is a graphic featured on the shirt that references the Battle of Vertières, a landmark moment in Haitian history that led to the country’s independence from France and is also associated with the early formation of its national identity and flag symbolism.

Although there was initial speculation that the imagery might be connected to external historical references such as Poland’s past solidarity, officials and historians clarified that the design is strictly rooted in Haiti’s own independence narrative.

Despite its historical significance, FIFA has ruled that the illustration does not comply with regulations regarding political messaging on kits. As a result, Haiti has been asked to remove or modify the element before the jersey can be approved for official competition use.

The decision has sparked discussion around how far national symbolism can be expressed in sporting attire, especially when tied to foundational moments of a country’s independence history.
