FIFA Orders Egypt to Alter World Cup Kit, Seven Stars Removed and Gold Numbers Changed

FIFA has instructed Egypt to make key changes to their national team jersey ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in line with tournament equipment regulations.

The Egyptian kit originally featured seven stars above the national crest, symbolising the country’s record seven Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles. However, FIFA has ruled that only stars representing World Cup victories are permitted on kits used during the tournament.

As a result, Egypt must remove the stars before their opening Group G match against Belgium.

In addition, FIFA has also requested a change to the gold-coloured names and numbers on the shirt, requiring them to be replaced with a more standard colour to improve visibility for broadcast purposes.

The Egyptian Football Association is expected to comply with the directive, with revised kits set to be produced ahead of the tournament kickoff.

The seven stars remain a major symbol of Egypt’s continental dominance in African football, but will not appear on their World Cup appearance this year due to FIFA’s strict uniform rules.
