Ten Months Ago Since Hon. Dino Promised Dr. Romanus Kampungu Sports Field to Be Turfed

It has been ten months since Deputy Minister of Sport Hon. Dino Ballotti publicly stated on social media that there were plans to upgrade the Dr. Romanus Kampungu Sports Field with an artificial turf. The announcement was widely seen as a potential game-changer for football development in the North East First Division and for clubs based in Rundu.
Rundu continues to stand out as one of the regions with a lots of First Division teams in Namibia. With more than five clubs based in the town, alongside a Premier League side, Rundu Sport Stadium has become the main venue for most fixtures. This has placed significant pressure on the facility due to its constant and heavy usage.
With multiple teams sharing a single stadium, scheduling challenges are common. In some cases, more than ten teams may depend on the same venue within a single match cycle. This situation also affects revenue distribution, as gate takings and ticket income are often shared among several fixtures and competing needs.
In September 2025, Hon. Dino Ballotti posted on social media stating that the Dr. Romanus Kampungu Sports Field would soon be converted into an artificial turf pitch. However, ten months later, there has been little visible progress on the project.

Upgrading alternative facilities such as the Dr. Romanus Kampungu Sports Field would significantly ease the burden on Rundu Sport Stadium, while also improving access to quality playing surfaces for local teams and strengthening football development in the region.
